Growing up you think you know everything, especially when it comes to your family.  So I am sure you would be as surprised as I was to find out a big secret, one that you never expected.

I always knew my Mom’s maiden name was Keebler, but I never really thought anything of it.  It is just a last name, I would think. Apparently, I was so wrong about that, that wrong wasn’t even the word.

I would always also find it so funny when stores would ask my Grandma how to spell her last name, and she would say Keebler, like the cookie.  Wouldn’t it be so cool if we actually had something to do with the Keebler cookies that were made?  Yeah, probably pretty cool, right?

Every year, my family and I bake Christmas cookies for an entire day before Christmas.  I was always told it was because we are the Keebler Elves, even though I knew we really weren’t.

So, I am sure you are wondering, Alicia where are you going with this?

Well, sure enough, I am a Keebler Elf.  We are the Keebler family.  And you guessed it, we are the Keebler cookie company, or at least we used to be.

I will never forget the day I found out.

We were driving home from Wal-Mart, where we had just picked up a new package of cookies, I was about 10 years old.  Why they never told me before this day, I will never know.

I was sitting in the back snacking on my cookies when I said, “Isn’t it so weird that they call themselves the Keebler cookie company, but they aren’t even Keebler’s like we are?”

“They used to be Keebler’s,” said my Grandma.

She then went on to tell me about how my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather was the inventor of the Keebler Cookie Company, but sold it to Nabisco before he passed away, hence why I am still poor.

As a ten year old, I am sure you can imagine my absolute shock.  I had no idea, and was so baffled that they had never told me.  Little did I know, my life was then opened to an array of opportunities.  The number one opportunity was that I now had the ultimate fun fact to share, especially in job interviews.

I guess what you can take out of this, is learn your families history.  Imagine if I was 21 years old and still had no idea of this EXTREMELY important detail in my life…How sad would that be honestly… Don’t be afraid to ask questions, you could learn on of the biggest secrets that have been hidden from you for ten, twenty, even thirty years.  Who know’s I mean, parent’s forget things, right?

And never forget, Positive Vibes Only.
