When I first started out blogging, I had no idea what it even meant to Monetize a blog. I knew I could somehow make money doing it, but that was all a foreign concept to me. I started to do my research and by time I was ready to launch my second blog (this one) I was ready to go right from the start.
So to make it a little easier for all of you, I am going to explain just how you can monetize using my favorite form of monetization, affiliate marketing and for your convenience, I have included some of my favorite affiliate companies to work with. If you want to get serious about blogging, this is exactly what you need to be doing.
The first step to being able to correctly monetize your blog the way you want is by making sure you are self hosted and you own your domain. This gives you the true freedom to monetize exactly the way you want. So far, I have been with two self hosting servers and out of the two, I cannot recommend Siteground enough.
They have amazing customer support and I have had no problems with the server. My previous server, my site was crashing constantly so it is definitely nice not having to worry about that anymore.
Once you have your domain and server all set up, you just need to set up your site with WordPress and you are ready to go!
Let’s Monetize- But where do we start?
Now for the fun part, because this is where the money starts coming in.
The best way I have found to do this is through affiliate marketing. Now, before we get started with the nitty gritty, we gotta talk. Do not get discouraged if you do not immediately start making money. It does take time and this is normal. If you market your content as much as you can and really get your blog out there, people will want to see what you have to say.
So, what is affiliate marketing. When you become an affiliate or an influencer, you are basically convincing people to buy a companies product. When you convince someone to buy a product through a custom link that is given to you, you make a percentage of that income. Simple, right? Keep in mind, a lot of companies require you to have a following before you can start marketing for them, but lucky for all of you getting started, some do accept you pretty much right away.
One that I got accepted by the day I started this blog was Amazon Affiliates. Amazon let’s you market basically anything they sell, which is amazing! The other positive with Amazon Affiliates is that if someone goes through your link, you will get commission for anything else they buy while they are on Amazon within a 24 hour period. Amazon is definitely a good place to get started with monetization and affiliate marketing.
Getting More Serious about Monetization
Once you have a following built up, you can really start to find some affiliate marketing sites that have a lot of companies you can affiliate for, and will also offer you a better commission percentage. I am going to talk about three that I currently use and LOVE!
1. Share a Sale
shareasale.com is one of the first sites I started with when I knew I wanted to get more serious with monetization. The application process was extremely easy and it offered so many different companies that I could get involved with! I have already begun working with so many different companies and promoting their progress through my blog and I am loving it!
Come Join the #1 Affiliate Network! Rakuten is a great company that supports a lot of the top companies in the world such as Walmart, Kohls, Starbucks and many, many more. If you really want to take your affiliate marketing to a new level, Rakuten is an amazing place to get started!
Last we have Linqia. Linqia words a little different. Companies find you and you actually get paid for engagement. Some would call this a pay per click system and I love it! Even if your product is not bought, you are still getting compensated just for driving traffic to the company! It is awesome and I highly suggest trying it out!
Market Market Market!
Make sure you are staying extremely active on social media and are getting your content out there! If no one is seeing what you have to offer, you are not going to have success with monetizing your blog. You have to put in the work and if you do, you will see results. You can start making money today, you just have to be strategic and know what you are doing.
