I am so excited to welcome my first guest blogger onto The Happy Hippie! Check out this amazing post she created for us!
I am a new personal blogger on the scene! I talk about anything and everything on whimsyhoney.com, and I bring all the topics I discuss back to happiness!
“My own father also played an important role in my success… We’d sit around the dinner table and he’d ask, “What did you guys fail at this week?” If we had nothing to tell him, he’d be disappointed. My father wanted us to try everything and feel free to push the envelope. His attitude taught me to define failure as not trying something I want to do instead of not achieving the right outcome”.
Bonjour! I feel frustrated.
Just like how you’re probably getting mixed signals from me right now, based on the first sentence, I also am receiving mixed signals from my brain about how I’ve been really feeling lately. I would just like my brain to choose just one emotion for me to feel for one day. But nope. My brain likes to be frivolous as hell.
Have you ever felt like you were just absolutely failing at life? Or maybe even, for just one minute out of your busy day? Well, I’ve been feeling that way this past week. I love to talk about and exude happiness and positivity, but I am also a regular human being that has ups and downs like everyone else on this crazy planet. I do my best to cheer myself up by relying on the activities and such that I know will motivate me, and those things that I do actually help!
Finding out what makes you happy, and what makes you smile will, for sure, help you to get through those hard times in life. Those times when you would just love to pick up the nearest object and chuck it at a wall. Those times when you would love to scream at the top of your lungs (I get that feeling a lot :). And those times when you feel like the world is caving in around you.
If you take the time (and don’t you dare say you don’t have the time for it, because when something important like your self-care comes up you will be able to find even just a few minutes to make time for it, because you matter) to figure out what simple action(s), activities, words, etc, make you giggle like you’re 5 years old again, you will no longer feel like the world has given up on you.
You won’t have the time to worry about negativity, because you will be taking one step closer to finding your happiness.
For me, my sense of failure this past week had stemmed from multiple different directions. And in order for me not to lose my darn mind, I made myself take a deep breath in and out, until I felt more at ease. Then, once I had gotten myself right on home, I made myself my current favourite cup of Hazelnut Chai tea, plopped down on my comfy chair and watched some YouTube videos.
Sometimes you just gotta take your mind off of the things that worry you by distracting yourself and treating yourself to the things that make you happy.
Just like how some people meditate, one of the first things that I do when I’m feeling stressed is pray and ask God to take all my worries away. Works pretty well for me!
One of the things that make me feel a bit agitated every once in a while is when I get discouraged about my current mission: learning French. You don’t understand how badly I want to travel to France! One day I will do it, and when I do it it will be like a DREAM COME TRUE!! Ahem, let me calm down for a second… got super excited at the thought of France. I want to learn the language before I get there and I have been doing that through an awesome online source: Duolingo! But that website wasn’t doing it for me, nor was it encouraging me to stay motivated and to keep learning the language.
The power of the internet introduced me to so many other things that I could do to stay motivated, such as:
1) Watching French Children’s Shows: I know this sounds cuckoo, but by watching these children’s shows you learn the language in fun and easy ways! Plus you feel like a child all over again! Nothing to be embarrassed about!
2) Watching French YouTuber’s Videos: There are soooo many French YouTubers that will bring you eruptions of laughter all over YouTube! Now, some of them have ‘CC’ or subtitles in English so that you won’t be left behind. There are French YouTuber’s that have lifestyle/beauty channels, comedy channels, book review channels, etc. My two current favourites are Natoo and Norman fait des videos, both channels are extremely funny and have English subtitles!
3) Spice It Up: I also decided to start learning some Italiano on the side, just ’cause! If I’m ever feeling frustrated about learning French, I hop on over to the Italian side of Duolingo and have some fun!
4) Wreck This Journal/Daily Planner: Last but not least, I wanted to spoil myself a little bit by buying 2 very much so needed books. I am a very forgetful person, and my daily life can get pretty busy, so in order to remember all that I need to do, I bought myself a daily planner! My daily planner has been such a life saver for me! Without it, I would honestly forget everything that needs to be done for the week. And I also bought a Wreck This Journal for the times when I want to let out my frustrations artistically 🙂
There are so many different things that I could recommend to you during those times when you feel like punching a hole in the wall. But I believe that the most important thing that I seriously encourage is self-care/self-love/self-indulgence. SPOIL YOURSELF. YOU DESERVE IT. Once you start to take care of yourself just as you would to a loved one, you will start to see a difference in your life. I promise you, self-care may seem like nothing to you right now, but once you start to realize that YOU ARE IMPORTANT, you will never give self-care up.
That is all for now, mes amis, I hope you enjoyed my tips! Bonne nuit! 😀
